The Farmingdale State Rams broke out the lumber in their 16-1 victory over Baruch. They smacked 22 hits with five of those going for extra bases.

Freshman Josh Shapiro led the offense with five hits, driving in two runs and scoring a run.

“You gotta do your job when you get a pitch to hit,” said the freshman who said he’s only had a five-hit game in travel ball. “We have a bunch of young guys, but they’re starting to come together,” he added.

Anthony Gigante had three hits, Brandon Snow had three, drove in three and scored three runs. Dalton McCarthy had two hits, two RBI and scored two runs.

Starting pitcher, Matthew Constantine, settled in after allowing a run in the first inning to throw four shutout innings after that. He scattered seven hits, walked none and struck out one batter.

After scoring one run in their half of the first inning, they broke it open with four in the second inning and six in the third inning, batting around both innings.

Ryan O’Connor fired two shutout innings in relief, Chris Keithline threw a scoreless eighth while Daniel Egan and Christian Mateyunas finished it off in the ninth.

With the victory, the Rams improve to 7-10 on the season, while the Bearcats drop to 7-14.

The Rams will be back in action on Saturday against St. Joseph’s, when they host their conference rivals in a DH. With the impending rain, there is a strong likelihood of the game being rescheduled.

“Our guys have a lot of passion and we’re ready to see what conference ball is all about.”
