After three straight spotty starts to begin the season, it appears Dan Jagiello is back on track. He dominated the high-octane Spartans lineup yesterday in LIU Post’s 10-3 victory in Game One of a DH.
The offense smacked 10 hits and was led by freshman Jimmy Mendyk’s two hits and 3 RBI. Rob Andreoli added two hits and a solo HR, Thomas Asbaty had two hits and scored two runs, Kenny Daley and Lou Doria both had two RBI and drove in two runs.
The Pioneers made Jagiello’s job much easier when they put up a four-spot in the first inning against starter Anthony Morris. His line was 3.2 IP, nine ER on a eight hits, five walks and three Ks. They also defeated him on April 2 last year at their field.
The Spartans entered the game with an offense that had smacked 19 HRs and compiled a .418 team slugging percentage. Jagiello had a tall order to contain them but he did a commendable job.
He went six innings, struck out 10, allowed three ER on seven hits for his third win of the season.
The two teams played a second game, which the Spartans took by the score of 6-2.
The Pioneers record is now 10-14. They will be back in action this weekend for a four-game set against Dowling.
