March 19 Recap

Division-I:

Stony Brook had their DH at UMBC cancelled due to inclement weather. They will be back in action on Tuesday at Sacred Heart.

Hofstra lost the middle game of their series at Ohio State by the score of 4-2.They held a 2-1 lead entering the bottom of the eighth inning, but the Buckeyes put up a three-spot off John Rooney. Chris Weiss threw seven terrific innings, allowing one run with three strikeouts. They will look to salvage the third game of the series this afternoon at 1pm.

NYIT split their DH with UMass-Lowell, winning the first game 7-1 and losing 6-4 In the victory, Elias Martinez threw eight strong innings, allowing four hits, no runs, striking out 12 and walking none. Anthony Martelli, Christopher Rula and Jake Lebel all compiled two hits, with Joe Daru, Anthony Caradonna and Martelli all driving in two runs.

Division-II:

Adelphi  won a nail-biter, 6-5 over Southern Connecticut State University. It was Adelphi’s final game at the Lynn Invitational in Boca Raton, Florida. Both teams were trading runs early in the game, but Adelphi managed to silence So. Connecticut’s bats as the game went on. Zack Levinson and Eric Hassel drove in four of their six runs and TJ Santiago held the lead in six innings pitched, improving his record to 3-1. Adelphi will return to their home field in Garden City on Tuesday when they play Philadelphia University.

Molloy split their doubleheader against Stonehill College. Anthony Catinella pitched eight shutout innings in their 4-1 win in Game 1. First baseman, Angelo Navetta continues his hot streak at the plate, going 2-3 with two RBI singles. Navetta is currently batting .391 which ranks fifth in the East Coast Conference.

Molloy lost Game 2, 6-2, but there were still some positives to take away from the game. Bobby Kelly had another good outing, pitching four innings and giving up only one earned run. Kelly ranks among the top pitchers in the ECC in multiple categories including wins (3) and ERA (2.14). Freshman catcher, Michael Wall got his first collegiate hit in a big way, a solo home run in the bottom of the third. Despite the loss, Molloy is still off to a strong start to the season as they have the second-best overall record in the ECC (11-6).

Dowling lost to Pace by the score of 9-3 and Dominican by the score of 7-0.In Game 1, Vinny Orlando had two of the six hits and an RBI. Dominic Danetti was tagged with the loss. In Game 2, Tyler Piccolo got the only hit and John Parisi was tagged with the loss. Andrew Sesto threw five strong innings in relief.

Division-III:

Farmingdale was defeated 9-2 by Stockton to fall to 1-8 on the season. The second game of the DH was postponed. They will play a DH tomorrow.
