March 13 Recap

We had our reporter Danny Gatta on the scene for the Dowling-New Haven double header at Golden Lions’ Field. Here’s the rest of the day’s recap…

Division-I:

Stony Brook was defeated 6-1 by Fordham, thwarting their hopes of a three-win weekend. They led 1-0 going into the bottom of the fourth but the Rams put up a six-spot to take a command lead. Tyler Honahan was tagged with his second loss of the season, allowing five ER over 3.1 IP. Aaron Pinto came on in relief and was stellar–throwing 4.2 shutout innings with eight Ks against one walk. The bright spots was Toby Handley continuing his hot hitting, smacking three more hits in four at bats. Andruw Gazzola had two hits and Dylan Resk had two hits and drove in a run. They will host Iona on Tuesday.

NYIT defeated Princeton 2-1 despite being outhit 9-1.They scored their runs on a fielder’s choice and a passed ball. Brandon Alberto recorded his first win in his relief. They will travel to UMass-Lowell on Saturday.

Hofstra lost to Longwood by the score of 6-5 on a walk-off two-run double in the bottom of the ninth inning. They had taken a 5-4 lead in the top of the ninth on a solo home run by Teddy Cillis. John Rooney was tagged with the loss–he threw 2.2 innings, allowing two ER with four Ks. Nick Bottari crushed his third home run of the season, Steven Foster and Vito Friscia both had two hits in the game. They will look to get back on track on Tuesday at Farleigh Dickinson University.

Division-II:

Molloy defeated Adelphi 17-5 down in Florida. Ron Bauer continued his great start to the season with another victory, firing six innings and allowing o ER. The offense smacked 17 hits, with contributions from almost everyone. Kevin Podell had four hits, scored four runs and drove in two. Anthony Alberghina had two hits and scored two runs, Michael Rahn had two hits, scored a run and drove in one, Angelo Navetto had two hits. Anthony Galanoudis drove in three runs. Eric Hassell had two hits for the Panthers. The Lions are now 8-4, while the Panthers are 7-4.The Lions will face Lynn University tomorrow,

Dowling defeated New Haven in both games of the DH. We will have a game recap posted soon.

Division-III:

Old Westbury lost 6-3 to Eastern Connecticut. Vinny Caputo was tagged with his first loss of the season–he went 6.0 IP, allowing four ER on four hits, while striking out three and walking three. Joe Boscia and Preston Zanon drove in the runs for the Panthers, Kevin Lao was the lone player to compile two hits. They fall to 9-4 and will host New Jersey City on Friday.
