It was a busy day on the island with 8 of the 12 local teams in action. Here’s a quick rundown if you missed any of the action…
Division-I:
Stony Brook defeated Villanova by the score of 9-3. Dylan Resk had two hits and drove in two runs for the Sea Wolves. David Real had two hits as well, driving in one run. In addition to their eight hits, they also drew seven walks in the game. Starter Cameron Stone went 4.1 innings, allowing three ER but not qualifying for the win. Chad Lee came in relief and threw three shutout innings, despite allowing five hits and striking out one. With the victory, the Sea Wolves improve to 5-7 and will look to inch closer to .500 tomorrow when they travel to Fordham.
Hofstra was swept in their DH by Longwood down in Virginia. In Game 1, Alec Eisenberg was tagged with the tough luck loss–he went 7.0 IP, allowed two runs (o ER), struck out four and walked four. The Pride outhit Longwood 7-6 but couldn’t scratch a run.
In Game 2, they took a 1-0 lead on a wild pitch that scored Nick Bottari. They tied the game in the ninth on an RBI single by David Leiderman but lost in the bottom of the inning on a walk-off home run. Adam Heidenfelder threw 4.1 IP, struck out seven and walked none, but allowed the walk-off homer. The Pride fall to 4-9 with the loss, they will be back in action tomorrow against Longwood at 11am.
NYIT lost 9-1 to Richmond. Joe Daru led off the game with a home run, but that was the only run the Bears put on the board. Dixon Marble was tagged with the loss–he went 5.0 IP, allowing three ER for his first loss of the season. They will face Princeton tomorrow at 10am.
Division-II:
Adelphi shutout Wilmington 3-0 down in Florida. TJ Santiago fired a complete game shutout, striking out seven and walking none. Kory Cassara and Brandon Morse both drove in runs with RBI doubles. Morse had a career-high five hits and is now batting .486.They will face Molloy tomorrow at 11am in Boca Raton.
Dowling was swept by New Haven by the scores of 6-4 and 4-0. They led 4-0 in Game 1 after RBI doubles by Chris Appell and Chris Russo. Cody McPartland was unable to hold the lead. He was tagged with his third loss of the season, allowing 11 hits and five runs over 6.0 IP. Long Islander Vincent Aprea recorded the win. They were one-hit in Game 2, R.J. Going recorded the lone hit. Dominic Danetti allowed only one ER over 5.0 IP, but was tagged with the tough luck loss. They will host New Haven tomorrow in another DH. They are now 1-6 on the season.
Division-III:
Old Westbury swept Lehman 16-4 and 10-9. Jeremy Charles got the win in Game 1–he went 6.0 IP, allowed two ER, struck out six and walked none. Joey Walsh had three hits and six RBI, Tommy Zeigen had two hits, three RBI and scored three runs, Paul Rapoli had two hits and drove in three runs.
In Game 2, Danny Aguilo recorded the win–he allowed four runs over 5.0 IP. Ryan Mordecai came in for the save after Lehman had mounted a seventh inning rally to creep within a run. Joe Boscia had three hits and three RBI, Dean Sheridan had two hits and two RBI and Kevin Lao smacked a two-run HR. They will host Eastern Connecticut in a single game tomorrow at Baseball Heaven. They are now 9-3.
St. Joseph’s swept St. Lawrence by the scores of 8-5 and 4-3. They completed an impressive comeback in Game 1, they trailed 4-0 in the fifth. They scored the next seven runs. Anthony Bonilla had three hits and drove in two runs. James Nakashian also had two hits and two RBI.Ryan Aloise threw eight gutsy innings, allowing only one ER and recording the win.
They won Game 2 on a walk-off single by Anthony Bonilla. Bob Keating hit a two-run HR. Nick Clemente recorded his first win of the season.They are now 7-2 on the season and batting .322 as a team.
Farmingdale was swept by Eastern Connecticut to fall to 0-6 on the season. In Game 1, Domenic Palumbo had two hits and Brandon Ernest had two RBI. Dalton McCarthy allowed 0 ER over 5.0 IP, with six K but didn’t factor in the decision.
They lost 6-2 in Game 2, Matt Seelinger threw 6.2 IP in relief, allowing two ER with eight K but the offense couldn’t make much of their nine hits. Joshua Ockimey had three hits in the cleanup spot and Brian Benton had two hits.
They will host Kean on Wednesday as they look for their first victory of the season.
