After seven straight incredibly challenging match ups against the best of the SEC, Hofstra had a weekend to bulk up the stats against an inferior opponent.
They defeated Coppin State by the scores of 17-4, 17-0 and 15-0.
It was a nice weekend for the Pride.
In the first game, Chris Weiss recorded the victory. He went 5.0 innings, allowed four ER while striking out three. Andrew Mundy flaunted the stuff that made him a highly-touted recruit out of St. John the Baptist by throwing three shutout innings with three Ks. Teddy Cilis fired a shutout inning.
The offense was backed by breakout performances for several players. David Leiderman hit his first HR of the season. He had three hits, scored three runs and drove in three runs.
Mat Anunziata smacked four hits, drove in two runs and scored two runs. Nick Bottari, Steven Foster and Tom Archer all drove in two runs.
The next game was much of the same, except they threw a shutout. Alec Eisenberg went out and fired six innings of shutout ball with six Ks. Dave Jesch fired a scoreless seventh inning with two Ks.
The offense compiled 13 hits, with a whopping nine extra-base hits. Nick Bottari, Brad Witkowski and Mat Anunziata all cracked their first HR of the season and six players added doubles. Bottari drove in four runs and Witkowski drove in three (both hitting three-run shots).
They completed the sweep with a 15-0 thrashing. Bowie Matteson threw five shutout innings, allowing four hits, while striking out five.
John Rooney, Chris Bonk and Brendan Mulligan all added scoreless frames.
The offense was led by Mat Anunziata’s four RBI day, he had two hits and scored two runs as well. Ryan Karl, Brad Witkowski and Chris Hardardt added two RBI.
The offense drew an incredible 13 walks. Freshman Vito Friscia accounted for four of those. Steven Foster drew three walks as well.
The Pride improve to 3-7 on the season. They will travel to West Point on Wednesday for a match up against Army at 3pm as they battle to get back to .500.
