February 28: What’s On Tap for Today

Today is an important day for many of the Long Island teams. After having a rough start to the season, it’s crucial they escape with a victory to relieve some of the early-season jitters and to get a W on the board before the calendar hits March.

Division-I:

Stony Brook will close out their three-game set with Baylor University today at 2 pm. They lost the first two games 16-2 and 20-4. Clearly, Baylor has a potent offense. The Sea Wolves will be looking to snap their four-game skid.

Hofstra will look to escape Florida with a victory against the University of Missouri. They lost a DH yesterday by the scores of 8-0 and 11-4. They have found the SEC very difficult to figure out. The bright spots have been Dave Jesch‘s strong return from Tommy John surgery (5 K’s through 3 IP), freshman John Rooney‘s quick adjustment from Class C high school ball to the SEC (6 K’s through 5 IP), SS Brad Witkowski‘s 8-for-20 (.400 AVG) start to the season and Vito Friscia‘s eye at the plate (five walks in 15 plate appearance).
