Day 2 in Texas: What’s on Tap for February 20

The No. 4 Texas A&M Aggies will host Hofstra at 2:05 P.M in the middle game of their three game set.

Chris Weiss will be on the hill for the Pride. The 2014 Longwood grad  led the team in ERA as a freshman last season. He threw 17.2 IP, mainly out of the bullpen, and compiled a 3.57 ERA with 10 Ks.

He will be opposed by sophomore Corbin Martin, making his first start of the season. He threw 18.1 innings as a freshman with a 2.95 ERA and 21 Ks against 12 walks.

The Pride will trot out the same lineup as last night:

  1. Mat Anunziata, LF
  2. David Leiderman, 3b
  3. Steven Foster, CF
  4. Ryan Karl, 1b
  5. Vito Friscia, C
  6. Teddy Cilis, RF
  7. Nick Bottari, DH
  8. Brad Witkowski, SS
  9. Tom Archer, 2b

If the Pride are to win, they will need to rely on their offense to do what they do best–mash the ball. The Aggies won 50 games last year for a reason and they do not make many defensive miscues. The Pride will also need to eliminate any miscues because the Aggies will capitalize. It was not the difference in the game, but the Pride did hand them two runs due to Teddy Cilis mishandling a single that led to a sac fly and John Rooney‘s balk that resulted in an RBI single.

Other News: Stony Brook will take on Wofford at 2:00 PM. They are coming off an easy 11-6 victory over Dayton in which Casey Baker drove in six runs and Johnny Caputo smacked a three-run shot.

NYIT will take on Coppin State in a DH. Coppin State won only three games last season, so it could be a chance for the Bears to open the season with some victories before they head back to NY.

Molloy will take on Pfeiffer University in a DH before closing up their series tomorrow. Junior Ron Bauer will be th starter.

Old Westbury will open up at Steven Institute. They will have transfer Jeremy Charles on the hill as they begin their title run defense.
