It’s not often you can have all the college coaches and top baseball players on Long Island in one room.
For one night we were able to make that happen.
I am truly appreciative of the turnout despite the poor weather and the distance many of the members of the audience had to commute.
In addition to the All-Long Island team, we also crowned Andruw Gazzola with the Rookie of the Year, Jake DeCarli with the Cy Young Award and Jack Parenty with the Most Valuable Player Award.
On the high school side, we honored John Hengge with the Courage Award and Nick Fanti with the Steven Matz Award.
Tyler Badamo of the New York Mets, Charles Galiano of the Milwaukee Brewers, Bryan Verbitsky of the San Diego Padres and Steve Marino of the Southern Illinois Miners were in attendance as well.
Special thanks to Gregg Sarra of Newsday for speaking on behalf of Steven Foster and Nick Fanti.
We look forward to the 2016 baseball season, I think we’ll provide better coverage than 2015.
There will be a reporter assigned to cover Nassau high school baseball and the CHSAA in addition to college and Suffolk high school as usual.
Additionally, I will be traveling with Hofstra to cover their season opening series against Texas A & M on February 18-20.
Our next event is June 5–the Battle of the Border All-Star Game between the top college seniors from Nassau against Suffolk.
Thanks again, Merry Christmas and Happy New Years.
