One aspect of Steven Matz‘ game that is evident is his ability to mitigate any of the outside distractions and simply focus on pitching.
He will need to possess a great deal of that focus tomorrow night in the Subway Series against Masahiro Tanaka and the New York Yankees.
Matz will be pitching in front of his hometown fans in his fifth big league start. He will enter the game with an unblemished mark of 3-0 with a 1.88 ERA over his first 24.0 IP. He has struck out 22 while compiling a 1.08 WHIP.
The Yankees will be a tough match up for Matz–they have compiled a .783 OPS against left handed starting pitchers this season over 41 games. They have hit 59 home runs over that span. Overall, the Yankees have the third highest OPS in MLB and compiled the third most HRs.
The Ward Meville grad has not allowed more than two ER in any of his previous four big league starts. He is coming off a victory last Friday against the Atlanta Braves in which he allowed one ER over 5 IP.
It will be must see TV for fans of NY baseball and especially fans of baseball here on the island.
