It was a typically cold Spring day on March 31 and when you factor in playing on the frigid east end and against the reigning Long Island Champions in West Islip, it was going to be a tough task for any pitcher.
Half Hollow Hills West was faced with replacing Aaron Glickstein, their ace coming off a 10-0 season and with the ink barely dried on his letter of intent to Stony Brook, who had recently gotten Tommy John surgery.
His replacement was sophomore Bradley Camarda.
Unfazed, even with Newsday and Baseball on the Island in the stands, the young right hander went out and delivered a remarkable outing, forcing his way into the conversation of top pitchers on the island.
That outing put his name on the map and he proceeded to win four games for his team, who went 15-5 but had their season cut short by Smithtown East in the postseason.
“I wouldn’t say it was a turning point, but it definitely helped to put my name on the college radar,” said Camarda. “Had it not been for the amazing opportunities given to me by coach Migliozzi, I wouldn’t be the player I am,” he added.
Despite only being a sophomore, Camarda was a highly sought after commodity and he decided to take his talents to Hofstra University, who are building quite a strong pitching staff.
“Everyone that was part of the process was very helpful,” he said. “and made the process much easier than I heard it was supposed to be. “I chose Hofstra because I love the coaches, the campus and their academic programs,” he added.
