Matz, Stroman Begin Throwing Schedule

Two of Long Island’s finest pitching prospects in history, Marcus Stroman and Steven Matz, have combined for two starts in 2015–both by Matz. That is about to change very soon, as both players have began their throwing program with hopes of coming back in the first week of September.

“I will be back 100%,” he told me this week.

Stroman’s father told us the plan was for an August return but that appears unrealistic at this point. His first throwing session was earlier this week, as was Steven Matz.

Stroman, unlike Matz is a very outgoing and engaging figure. He makes his life very public via social media. If you follow him on Instagram, Twitter or Snapchat you can see that he lets everyone into his life. He posts frequent videos of his workouts and posted his throwing sessions as well. Matz, on the other hand, rarely updates his social media and the only thing the public knows about his personal life is he has a cool grandpa and that he is really good at spinning things on his finger. So, we need to rely on Mets’ GM Sandy Alderson for updates on his progress.

Ward Melville HS coach Lou Petrucci has been enjoying all the attention being given to the program’s best player

“I’m impressed with Steven’s poise and development as a baseball player.  To watch him dominate a tough Los Angeles Dodgers’ club in his second start was a proud day for all of us at Ward Melville High School.  Steven continues to show the MLB world what we already knew at Ward Melville.  Steven is a competitor with tremendous talent.  There is no question that down the home stretch, Steven will play a vital role in helping the Mets advance into the playoffs and make New York baseball extremely interesting in October once again.”

With Toronto and the Mets currently riding hot streaks, it is entirely possible that they will both make the postseason. If that is the case, these two players will play crucial roles in their team’s success.

As you can see by the screen shot, Stroman is amp’d to get back.
