Travis Jankowski Starts in Double-A All-Star Game

Travis Jankowski, the only first-round pick in Stony Brook history, had himself a terrific game at the Double-A All Star Game last night.

The Lancaster, PA native led off the game with a solo home run to right field. In his second at bat, he tripled to right center field.

It was a rare show of power from the 24-year-old, who has only one home run all season for the San Antonio Missions.

He is forcing his way into the conversation for the San Diego Padres future. Despite making noise in the offseason when they traded for Wil Myers, Justin Upton, Melvin Upton and Matt Kemp to upgrade their outfield, only Justin Upton is really performing up to par–which could have them looking towards their top prospects in the near future to provide immediate relief.

Their 2012 1st round pick is hitting .313/.394/.392 with 23 steals over 72 games. Over his four-year minor league career, he has compiled a .284 batting average with 128 steals over 301 games. He has three career home runs but a solid .351 OBP.

He had one of the finest years in Sea Wolves history in 2012. He racked up a program-best 110 hits in 266 at bats (.414 AVG) and 36 stolen bases in 42 attempts over 66 games. He walked more times (24) than he struck out (22) while leading the Sea Wolves to their only trip to the Div. I College World Series.

In the near future, Jankowski will join Tom Koehler, Nick Tropeano and Joe Nathan as Sea Wolves that have starred in the show.
