The Stony Brook Sea Wolves were primed to make a season-saving comeback against No. 1 seed TCU, but a three-run home run in the fifth inning by Evan Skoug broke the game open at 5-1 and effectively put a nail in the coffin of the 2015 season.
The Sea Wolves mustered four hits in the game–two by Malcolm Nachmanoff and two by Toby Handley, very uncharacteristic for a team that hits .296 cumulatively.
TCU starter Brian Howard, a 6’9 sophomore, struggled with his command. He walked four batters and allowed two hits over 4.1 innings. His reliever, Drew Gooch, was put in to face Cole Peragine in with two on in the fifth inning. He walked Peragine and was taken out in favor of Preston Guillory. Handley smacked a two-run hit to make the score 5-3.
From that point on, however, Guillory settled down and threw 3.2 shutout innings to keep the Sea Wolves at bay.
The Stony Brook pitching staff could not contain the high-octane TCU offense which hit 26 home runs this season.
Teddy Rotliff was tagged with L–he pitched 1.1 innings, allowing two ER on four hits. Chad Lee 3.2 innings, allowing three ER.
The Sea Wolves finished the season at 35-16-1 and with their first America East crown since 2012.
