Anthony Gatto, who made a name for himself by winning the League IV MVP in 2009, 2010 and 2011, was recently named First Team All-Conference of the America East.
The redshirt junior at UMBC bounced back strong from an injury shortened 2014 season to bat .297 over 46 games. In 158 at bats, he scored 35 runs, smacked four home runs, drove in 22 runs, drew 25 walks, was hit by 11 pitches while striking out only 17 times. He had a terrific OBP of .427, stole 27 bases in 32 tries and committed only one error in the field.
It is his best season since his freshman year in 2012 when he batted .302 with a .376 OBP and also drove in 22 runs.
Gatto, a graduate of Smithtown West, was also a talented football player who holds the school records for touchdowns, sacks, interceptions, among others.
