After winning an emotionally charged game last night against Baldwin Wallace, today did not go as smooth for Old Westbury. They were defeated 12-2 despite RPI committing five errors in the field.
Tyler Kapela, the winning pitcher in the do-or-die Skyline Conference title game, was not as sharp today. He pitched 4.1 innings, allowing eight hits and seven ER. He was tagged for his second loss of the season.
With the score 3-0 after four innings, RPI broke it open with a five-spot in the fifth on four walks and three hits. The big blow was a two-run double by Shane Matthews.
Nick Dorcean and Justin Mize contributed 4.2 innings of relief, allowing two ER.
The offense compiled only seven hits with two of those off the bat of Jake Coners, who scored one run.
The Panthers will certainly have their backs against the wall. They will play tomorrow and must now run the table if they are to stave off elimination.
Caleb Olsen will be on the hill tomorrow.
