Stony Brook swept a DH by the scores of 5-3 and 9-3 and have lowered their magic number to clinch the America East to 2. They lead UMBC by 3.5 games in the standings so any combination of Sea Wolve victories or UMBC losses that add to two will result in Stony Brook getting the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament. There are four more regular season games to go.
In the first game of the DH, Stony Brook was behind 3-2 after three innings, but tied it up in the fourth when Andruw Gazzolla started the inning off with a triple and he scored on Bobby Honeyman‘s sac fly.
In the sixth, they took the lead when Casey Baker hit a one-out triple and he came in to score on a fielder’s choice. That was all the Sea Wolves’ pitching staff would need.
Starter Tim Knesnik was solid–allowing two ER in seven innings while striking out three. It evened his record at 3-3 on the season.
Cameron Stone came in relief to throw two perfect innings four his fourth save of the season.
In the second game, the Sea Wolves came out of the gate strong by scoring two runs on an RBI single by Jack Parenty and on a successful squeeze play executed by Rob Chavarria.
They added two more in the third on RBI singles by Chavarria and Baker.
That was all Daniel Zamora would need. Although he was not at his sharpest–he walked six over 6.1 innings, allowing three ER, he did record his fifth win of the season. He now has a 3.69 ERA over 61 IP.
Teddy Rodliff came in and slammed the door shut for Stony Brook’s 28th victory in 42 tries.
They are now 15-4 in the conference and will finish up their series against UMass-Lowell today looking for the sweep.
