Here are the results from today’s action on the diamond…
NYIT split a DH with Albany that was a make-up from March 10th. They won the first game, 4-3, in 11 innings. They scraped across the winning run on an RBI single by Anthony Caradonna that scored Matt DiBlase.
Nicholas Smith was the winning pitcher–he threw 4.1 hit less innings of relief with six strikeouts and one walk. It was his second win of the season.
Of the Bears’ eight hits, leadoff man Joe Daru had three of those. He also scored two runs. Louis Mele had two hits and scored a run as well.
They are now 12-23 on the season.
Hofstra lost 5-2 to Monmouth University to drop to 15-26 on the season. They briefly held a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a sac fly by Brian MacDonald but the Hawks responded with one in the second and two in the third to take the lead 3-1.
In the fourth inning, Matt Anunziata reached on a fielding error that scored Brian MacDonald to cut the lead to 3-2.
That was the closest the Pride would get, they were defeated and Adam Heidenfelder was tagged with his fourth loss of the season.
They will look to get back on track tomorrow when they host Division-II LIU Post.
Division-II:
LIU Post fell to AIC by the score of 6-2. They fell behind 5-0 in the first inning and couldn’t dig themselves out of the hole. Starting pitcher Mike Curti settled down after that, ended up throwing five innings, allowing six runs (five ER) while striking out three.
Both of the Pioneers’ runs came on sac flys by Kenny Fagan in consecutive innings. Rob Andreoli was the lone Pioneer to compile multiple hits.
They will travel to Hempstead to play Hofstra at 3:30 pm.
Dowling lost to Felician, 4-3, on a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the ninth. With the loss, they fall to 24-11 on the season.
They led 1-0 in the first inning and 3-1 in the third when Chris Appell hit his first home run of the season.
A game-tying two-run home run in the seventh evened it up at 3 and then Felician walked off with an RBI single off Dennis Buckstein.
The Golden Lions compiled only three hits but drew eight walks. They will host Molloy on Friday.
