And then there were seven.
Molloy was eliminated from postseason contention with their loss to Mercy by the score of 8-6. Despite their 20-20 record, they fell to 8-12 in ECC play.
They join the list of Hofstra and NYIT as teams that will not qualify for postseason play this season.
They entered the season knowing that underclassmen would play significant roles, but many of them had experience during their 2014 playoff appearance in which they surprised some people and defeated St. Thomas Aquinas in the first round of the ECC tournament.
This season they came out of the gate strong but have scuffled of the late. They lost four consecutive conference games last week and that is enough to spoil postseason hopes.
Yesterday it was a four-run sixth inning that did them in. They made an attempt to comeback in the ninth inning and plated two runs on an RBI ground out and wild pitch but that was it.
They will play Dowling this weekend in a four-game series that will conclude their 2015 season.
