Freshman Bobby Honeyman smacked a career-high five hits as Stony Brook easily defeated Albany 12-2 to finish the sweep and improve their record to 23-12.
The Sea Wolves scored three in the first, three again in the third and two in the eighth and compiled 18 hits as a team. Honeyman scored three runs to go along with his five hits. Toby Handley also had four hits, drove in two and scored twice. Robert Chavarria, Casey Baker and Andruw Gazzolla each had two hits. Baker drove in three, Gazzolla brought in a pair.
Ryley MacEachern, normally a reliever, started and pitched 3.1 innings. He struggled with his command, walking five batters, and was replaced with Chad Lee. He was terrific–firing 3.2 shutout innings with two strikeouts to record his fourth victory of the season. Nicholas DiEva and Teddy Rotliff both threw shutout innings to close the door.
With the victory, the Sea Wolves have now won nine consecutive games against Albany. They also improve to a conference-best 12-2. while Albany drops to 5-6.
They will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Fairfield.
