Aside from Stony Brook’s sweep of Albany and Dowling clinching a postseason berth, it was not the cheeriest of Sundays for Long Island teams.

Division-I:

NYIT lost 5-1 to Binghamton to lose the series. A four-run fifth inning was the difference in the ballgame.

David Plotkin started and was tagged with the loss for the Bears. He didn’t have his best control–he walked six in five innings for his first loss of the season.

The Bears will host Albany in a DH on Tuesday that is re-scheduled from March 10.

Hofstra was swept by Northeastern this weekend. The third game was an 8-3 final which dropped the Pride to 15-25 on the season.

Brian MacDonald got the Pride on the board in the second inning with a solo home run. The lead did not stand up, however. Northeastern scored eight straight runs to put the game away.

Nick Kozlowski was tagged with his fifth loss of the season. He allowed three ER in three innings.

The offense compiled only six hits, with three of them coming off the bat of sophomore catcher Chris Hardardt.

They will travel to New Jersey to take on Monmouth University on Tuesday.

Division-II:

Adelphi was swept in a NE-10 DH against AIC by the scores of 6-2 and 6-1. They led 1-0 in the first game on a sac fly by Rob Vani. Unfortunately, AIC got the offense going and took a 6-1 lead. The Panthers scratched across one in the seventh on an RBI bunt single by Vincent Sharkey.

Michael Tarpey was tagged with his third loss of the season.

The Panthers were held to one run in the second game and it came on a solo shot in the ninth inning by Nick Zito once the game was decided.

John Thompson suffered the loss–he allowed six ER in six innings. Rob Vani and Zito accounted for all four of the hits for the Panthers.

They will conclude their regular season this week. On Tuesday they will travel to Southern Connecticut State to take on the Owls.

LIU Post lost 7-2 to Queens to drop to 17-16 overall and 14-10 within the ECC. The Pioneers led 2-0 in the first inning on a sac fly by Anthony Brunetti and a double by David Groeneveld. That was their only production, though.

They had only six hits–Groeneveld and Vinny Iacono accounted for four of them.

Dan Jagiello allowed six runs in five innings for his second loss of the season. He was out dueled by Brandon Burrell who threw a complete game.

They will host AIC on Tuesday in a non-conference game.

Division-III:

St. Joseph’s split a DH with St. Joseph’s-Brooklyn. In the second game, they built up a 9-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth. Brendan Sullivan and Joe Calabrese hit RBI doubles in the first inning to build a 3-0 lead.

In the third, Sullivan hit a sac fly to expand the lead to 4-0. In the next inning, reigning Skyline Conference Player of the Week Joe Lynn hit a two-run triple and scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-0. Ryan Walsh hit a two-run double to make it 9-0.

Brooklyn fought back with one in the sixth and six in the seventh to make it a close one. Matt Leach was able to slam the door and seal the victory for Nick Girardi and the Golden Eagles.

They improved to 19-13 on the season and will host John Jay on Wednesday in a tuneup for the postseason.
