The Molloy Lions took three of four from the struggling Queens College this weekend to improve to 19-16 on the season.

After winning the first game 11-1 on Friday night, which we recapped, they won Game 1 of Saturday’s DH 4-3. They were down 3-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning, but came to life in the bottom of the seventh.

Kyle Van Duyne hit a sacrifice fly to score John Galanoudis and get the Lions on the board. In the eighth inning, they cut the lead to 3-2 on an error by the second baseman to score Anthony Alberghina. Michael Rahn hit a two-run single to score Angelo Navetto and pinch-runner Jack McCarty to give them the lead.

Alex Brosnan stayed in the game to finish what he started. He ended up with the complete game victory, striking out eight, walking none while allowing two ER for his third victory of the season. He needed 124 pitches to complete the game.

In the third game of the series, they won a wild one, 9-8,  in come-from-behind fashion. They led 4-0 after three innings thanks to RBI singles by Kevin Podell, Michael Rahn and Kyle Van Duyne

Queens scored three runs to cut it close in the fifth inning.

Podell hit a sac fly in the fifth to increase their lead to 5-3.

Lions starter Ron Bauer ran into quite a bit of trouble in the sixth inning. He, and reliever Deilyn Guzman allowed five runs to give the Knights an 8-5 lead.

Down to their final three hits, the Lions mounted an epic rally. Podell singled down the right field line to score Navetto and cut the lead to 8-6. Michael Rahn smacked a ground-rule double to score Podell and cut the lead to one. With two runners in scoring position, right fielder Austin Nieves hit a two-run single to score Brian Murphy and McCarty and give the Lions the impressive victory.

They will be back in action tomorrow at 3 pm against Dominican College.
