Shea Spitzbarth Fans 13 in Rout of Queens

The formula for Molloy has been simply–pound the baseball or hope one of their two aces is on the hill. Today, they were fortunate enough to have both occur. They scored six runs in the fifth, five in the sixth and Shea Spitzbarth was dominant over six innings–with 13 strikeouts–in their 11-1 victory over Queens.

Spitzbarth has been phenomenal all year, he now has 66 strikeouts in 45 innings and three wins. He allowed only two hits and walked four batters against an over matched Queens lineup that entered the game hitting .190. Combine those numbers with an All-Conference pitcher like Spitzbarth and you see numbers like that.

Queens also committed five errors, which happened to be one more than the amount of hits they compiled. Molloy had nine hits–with two off the bat of Anthony Alberghina, who drove in three runs. Kevin Podell also had two hits and drove in two runs, as did Kyle Van Duyne.

Van Duyne had the two-run double to get the Lions on the board and that ended up being all Spitzbarth would need.

With the victory, the Lions are now 17-15 and will look to improve on that beginning with a DH tomorrow against the same Dolphins team.
