We provided coverage of three games yesterday, but here is the results from the rest of the college programs on the island.
Division-I:
Hofstra shutout Manhattan 7-0, behind Adam Seibert and four relievers. Seibert started and went five innings, Adam Heidenfelder threw the sixth inning. Kevin Weissheier and his brother, Matt, both pitched one inning and Chris Weiss closed it out. Together, they allowed four hits and three walks while striking out 10.
The offense got going early on Brad Witkowski’s RBI triple to drive in Steven Foster. In the third inning, Dalton Rouleau hit a sac fly to score Witkowski to make it 2-0. David Leiderman stayed red-hot, and increased it to 4-0 with a two-run single. In the seventh inning, Eric Ferguson scored on a wild pitch for the fifth run and then Witkowski broke it open with a two-run single.
Foster and Witkowski both had three hits. Foster scored three runs while Witkowski knocked in three. The Pride are now 13-19 on the season and they will take on UNCW tomorrow.
NYIT won their eighth game of the season over Penn by the score of 6-2. They are now 8-15 on the season. They fell behind 2-0 in the second inning but responded with a three-spot in the third thanks to a wild pitch, a fielder’s choice and an RBI single by Louis Mele.
That was all the runs they would need, but they added insurance in the fifth on an RBI single by Robert Flato and another one by Josh Canabal.
Anthony Merchan started and received the win for the Bears, despite pitching 4.2 innings. He allowed 0 ER, struck out six and walked one. Nicholas Smith relieved him and threw 1.1 shutout innings of relief as did Michael Auriemmo.
Stony Brook beat LIU-Brooklyn, you can read the recap here.
Division-II:
Dowling cruised past Dominican 14-3. David Montiverdi improved to 2-0 on the season with six strong innings, allowing one ER while striking out six. Kyle DeMeo, Jon Parisi and Tom Bashen combined to throw the final three innings allowing two ER.
The Golden Lions smacked 15 hits–four by Tyler Piccolo, who drove in two runs and scored four. Vinny Orlando and Jon Cruz also had two hits, with Cruz driving in three runs.
They are now 18-8 and will take on Mercy this weekend in a four-game set.
Adelphi beat Kutztown, you can read the recap here.
Molloy routed Felician 14-7 to improve to 16-15 on the season. The offense smacked 14 hits and drew 11 walks, which is why the game took 3:35 to complete.
Reigning ECC Player of the Week, John Galanoudis had three more hits and three RBI. Brian Murphy had three hits and scored two runs as well, but the go-ahead run ended up being a bases loaded walk drawn by Austin Nieves, which proved to be the game-winning run.
The only negative is that it took six pitchers for the Lions to navigate to this win. Anthony Catinella started and struggled through four innings. He was relieved by Sean Gordon, who didn’t get an out while yielding two runs. Shawne Klotsche allowed one run in his inning of work. Joseph Natasi recorded the win with two innings of work, allowing one ER. Deilyn Guzman and Alex Brosnan both threw shutout innings in relief.
Division-III:
St. Joseph’s lost to Lehman, 9-7, to fall to 13-11 on the season. They did compile 12 hits, but they also left 12 men on base and walked six batters. It was a surprising loss considering Old Westbury outscored them 33-10 in a double header earlier this year.
Luke Brown received the loss, allowing two ER in 0.2 innings of work.
Joe Calabrese had three hits for the Golden Eagles. Joe Lynn and Anthony Andreani both had two.
They will be back in action on Saturday at Mount St. Mary’s in a conference double header.
