It took just one hour and 40 minutes for Casey Krebs and the East Islip Red Men to defeat the Centereach Cougars 6-2 today.

“I like to keep the defense not on their heels,” said  Krebs. “I always like to keep them on their toes,” he added.

Krebs, who won his second game of the season, pounded the strike zone all day and limited the Cougar offense to only four hits and was charged with one ER. He did walk the lead off batter on four pitches, but had no issues working ahead after that. He was not over powering, but consistently got ahead with fastballs on the outside corner while using his change up and curveball to expand the zone.

The Red Men took the lead  right away, when the lead off man walked, the next hitter blooped a single to right field and Krebs helped himself with an RBI single to RF. The next batter, Mike Demarest, hit a sac fly to left field to advance both the runners.

Cougar starter, Victor Corsaro, struggled with his command early but ultimately found his rhythm after that.

In the third inning, a single was misplayed by the Centereach RF to allow the runner to advance. Demarest made them pay with a screaming line drive over the second baseman that went for a double in the alley to score East Islip’s third run of the game.

Krebs was uber-efficient the next two innings–throwing only 19 pitches to get six outs in order.

East Islip opened it up in the fifth with three runs, thanks to a HBP of Krebs, a walk to Demarest and an RBI single by catcher Brendan Dowd. The following batter Joe Carrao hit an RBI ground out to second and an error allowed the third run to score.

The Cougars scored one run in their half of the inning on an RBI ground out that was unearned. They added their second run in the seventh inning also on an RBI ground out that scored Joe Calabrese.

The victory brings East Islip to 6-1 on the season.

“If we keep swinging the bats the way we’ve been swinging them and stay a defensively sound team, I think we’re going to go a long way,” said Krebs.
