Dowling-LIU Post Game Postponed

Today’s Dowling verse LIU Post game has been postponed due to the threat of rain. The game will be made up on Monday for the fourth game of the series.

Tomorrow Dowling will host the DH. It will begin at noon.

The series will be crucial for each team, considering the ramifications in the ECC standings. Dowling is currently first in the conference with a 6-2 record. They are percentage points ahead of St. Thomas Aquinas, who currently sit at 9-3. LIU Post is just behind with a 6-3 record.

Dowling will most likely throw Cody McPartland and Brendan Butler in tomorrow’s twinbill, while the Pioneers of LIU Post will probably throw ace Jake DeCarli and either Dan Jagiello or Connor McCarthy.

Dowling has been led by their terrific pitching. They have a staff ERA of 2.33. Their contributions have come from everyone–from their veteran starters to freshman relievers.

Their offense has basically been a one-man act. Catcher Dan Parisi is leading the ECC with an average of .403. Rob Costanzo has come on strong recently, but he has 20 fewer at bats. Overall their team average is only .263, but they are expecting significant improvements from proven hitters such as Jon Cruz and RJ Going.

The Pioneers have been basically been led by one hitter and one pitcher. Vinny Iacono, a senior outfielder, has gotten off to a .361 start, with 22 hits in 61 at bats. He is slugging .525. After him, however, Matt Bowers and Anthony Brunetti are the only consistent bats in the lineup right now, but neither has driven in more than eight runs.

Jake DeCarli is off to a ridiculous start. He has given up only 14 hits and 14 walks in 35 innings. His ERA is a microscopic 0.76 in five starts.
