Dowling Continues the Home Cooking

Don’t try to come into Dowling‘s kitchen and steal their cake. They won’t have any of it. They staved off Concordia’s ninth inning rally to hang on 5-4 for their ninth home win in 10 opportunities.

David Montiverdi started for the Golden Lions and he was exceptional. He threw 8.1 innings, allowed three ER on 10 hits, walked nobody and struck out five. It was his first win of the season.

After allowing an RBI double in the top of the first, Montiverdi settled down and was dominant.

His offense backed him right away, tying it up in the bottom of the first and taking the lead in the second inning on an RBI single by Tyler Piccolo.

RJ Going drove in two with a single in the fifth inning, scoring Anthony Ferrante and Rob Costanzo. They opened up the lead to 5-1 in seventh on an RBI ground out by Costanzo.

Concordia made it close in the ninth. A solo home run and RBI double chased Montiverdi from the game. Coach Caputo called on freshman Dennis Buckstein for the save.

After hitting the first batter, he settled down to strike out the next two batters and nail down the save. He has now struck out 11 in 10.2 innings, while allowing only one ER.

This weekend will be a huge series against LIU Post in a battle for ECC supremacy.
