The Farmingdale-St. Joseph’s rivalry has lost some luster in the past two seasons as the Golden Eagles suffered through some lean years, but they have gotten the momentum back in their direction with a DH sweep today by the scores of 5-3 and 7-3.

In the first game, Ryan Aloise started for the Golden Eagles and he was terrific–he allowed one ER over seven innings of work, while yielding only six hits and two walks.

He was backed by Joseph Calabrese‘s two hits and a bevy of RBI singles from the rest of the squad.

The Rams actually took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Tom Rydzewski came around to score on Anthony Alvino‘s RBI ground out.

That did not last long, as the Golden Eagles responded with a three-spot in the second thanks to RBI singles by Anthony Andreani and Dennis McAllister. James Terry hit a sac fly to score Andreani.

In the top of the third, Nick Osburn hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 3-2. Calabrese got that right back with a solo shot in the sixth. In the next frame, Anthony Bonilla ripped a double to score Joe Lynn.

In the ninth, Nick Girardi came in to put out the fire, and he struck out Anthony McQuade to end it.

Josh Outsen started the second game, and he was very effective as well. He went 6.2 innings, allowing three ER on seven hits while striking out six for his second victory of the season.

His offense did some damage of Rams starter David Otero Jr and a plethora of relievers.

The Golden Eagles opened up the scoring in the second inning on a double play off the bat of McAllister, which scored Brendan Sullivan. They opened it up in the third inning on an RBI double by Girardi, a sac fly by Calabrese and an RBI singly by Andreani.

In the fourth inning, they broke it open on a bases-clearing triple by Girardi, which scored Nakashian, Bonilla and Lynn.

The Rams briefly threatened in the fifth on an RBI groundout and a passed ball, but that was it.

Matt Mills came on for the one-out save in the seventh and he did his job–striking out Sage Turner to end it.

The victories bring the Golden Eagles overall record to 9-8, and 4-0 in the Skyline Conference. The Rams fall to 6-10 overall and 2-2 in the Conference. The season is far from over, but this will certainly have a strong impact on the standings.
