MLB wasn’t the only place to find action on the diamond today. There was some crucial games being played by Long Island teams.
Division-II:
Dowling defeated Queens by the score of 9-2, which means they took three of four in the series against the ECC foes. Dominick Danetti started and dominated–he threw seven shutout innings, allowed only two hits and four walks while striking out nine. He was relieved by Robert Rose, David DeJesus and David Montiverdi.
They wasted no time in opening up a 1-0 first inning lead on a sac fly by Jon Cruz. They added two in the third on Cruz’s two-run single to score Anthony Ferrante and Adam Schuster.
After being held scoreless for four innings, they broke it open with a five-spot in the eighth inning on a two-run double by Michael Richter, a fielder’s choice, an RBI ground out by Anthony Ferrante and a double by Rob Costanzo.
Queens was held to five hits and committed three errors.
Dowling improve to 14-5 and will take on Concordia on Wednesday at 3:30.
Molloy cruised past Bloomfield 7-2.
Ron Bauer was great–he allowed only one ER in six innings, while yielding five hits, two walks and striking out six.
The offense was led by the scorching-hot John Galanoudis, who added three more hits. He is now leading all Long Island players with 34 hits. He scored two runs and drove in one.
Anthony Alberghina drove in two runs in the victory.
The Lions are now 14-12 and will take on Bridgeport in a four-game series this weekend.
LIU Post was shutout by St. Thomas Aquinas 8-0 to drop to 9-9 on the season. Dan Jagiello suffered his first loss on the season–he allowed four ER in seven innings while walking five.
The offense was held to four hits, with nobody compiling multi-hits. They will take on Dowling this weekend in a crucial four-game clash.
Division-III:
Old Westbury: The Panthers cruised past Baruch 10-5.
They crushed 13 hits–Tommy Zeigen stayed red-hot with three more hits. Joey Walsh also had a trifecta and drove in three runs.
Nick Dorcean started and threw four shutout innings, striking out four.
He was relied by Christopher Vitale, Vinny Bieniek, Justin Mize, Caleb Olsen and Tim Ingram.
Bieniek was awarded with the victory, he threw 0.2 innings for his first win of the season.
