After an eight-day layoff, the St. Joseph’s Golden Eagles defeated Maritime 12-2 in a game that ended in seven innings due to a 10-run rule.

Four crooked numbers and some gutsy pitching from ace Ryan Aloise was the recipe to get back in the ‘W’ column.

“I think the batters were patient,” said second year Head Coach Richard Garrett. “They worked the counts, but at the same time, if they saw it, they jumped on it early. I think that was it,” he added.

The offense smacked 17 hits–Anthony Bonilla, Nick Girardi and Brendan Sullivan had three each, James Nakashian, Dennis McAllister, Anthony Andreani each had two. Nakashian scored four runs and Joseph Calabrese drove in four.

Ace Ryan Aloise battled without his best stuff, to gut it out for six innings, allowing two runs on eight hits and three walks.

“Ryan is our No. 1, he couldn’t find it but he battled through six innings and that’s what you expect,” he added.

Aloise danced around some trouble early on. When he could’ve let the lead slip away, he beared down and found the pitch to get through the jams. He settled in as the game progressed to have a 15 pitch third inning and nine pitch fourth inning when he needed to have quick innings.

The game ended on a sac fly by Calabrese to bring in the “walk-off” run.

They improved to 5-7 with the victory.
