2014 was not a banner season for the NYIT Bears. They won four games in 52 chances. This season, they have already matched that total in their 12th contest.
They defeated Fairfield with an easy 7-2 victory.
The Bears scored three runs in the bottom of the first innings, thanks to two HRs–Josh Canabal‘s two-run shot to center and Louis Mele‘s solo bomb.
That was all the offense that David Plotkin needed. He threw five innings, allowing two runs on four hits, four strikeouts while striking out four. Nicholas Smith and Michael Auriemmo combined for four shutout innings of relief to seal the victory.
The Bears knocked 11 hits–Mele had three while Matt DiBlase and Canabal each had two.
NYIT might not be having a ticker-tape parade anytime soon but it is a tremendous feat to recover from last season and make strides in the right direction.
They will take on NJIT this weekend in a three-game set.
