March 31 was the best day of Dan Parisi’s life, he stated. It had nothing to do with being named the MVP of March.
I think we’re better this year. Our pitching is doing just as good as last year but I believe we have a lot more depth. We’ve already about 6 different guys start games and we have a lot of options out of the bullpen. Offensively we definitely lost a lot from last year, especially in the power area but we make up for it with the amount of speed we have throughout the lineup.
It would be a tall order to equal last season’s performance, but when the team is getting production out of their star players like Parisi and Jon Cruz, it is certainly possible.
The 6’0″ catcher batted .281 last season and drove in 26 runs. He played at Longwood HS, where he won the gamut of awards–All-League, All-County, All-Long Island, second-team All-State and League MVP in his junior year.
He comes from an athletic family. His grandfather played minor league ball for the Cincinnati Reds. His father was talented, as well. He has cousins playing college ball and his brother recently graduated.
While not all days are filled with triumph and success, Parisi certainly experienced one yesterday. If there’s anything else like it in the future, it just might be the day that the Golden Lions reach Carey, NC.
