Who says offense is dead? For the second time in a week, a Long Island team has eclipsed the 20-run mark in a game. This time it was Molloy making easy work of Caldwell.
Granted, Caldwell committed six errors which led to nine unearned runs but still the Lions smacked 20 hits–four of which were by Jack McCarty and three were by John Galanoudis— to prove the cold and rainy weather can not stop them.
Believe it or not, they actually trailed 3-0 early in this game. Lions starter Peter Bellina struggled mightily with his control. He walked seven in two innings of work while allowing five ER.
The Lions responded with two runs in the first, five in the second, six in the third and four in the fourth to open up a 17-9 lead after just four innings.
Reliever Matthew Kelleher was rewarded the victory for throwing two innings and allowing four ER. Yes, it was that type of game.
Fortunately, the bullpen calmed the storm. The combination of Joseph Natasi, Shea Spitzbarth, Deilyn Guzman and Sean Gordon threw five shutout innings. Generally, coaches do not like to throw their ‘A’ level guys in blowout games, but somebody has to get the outs and sometimes it is the best option.
Ten players drove in at least one run in this game–McCarty and Anthony Alberghina led the attack with three apiece.
In their two games against Caldwell, they have outscored them 35-14.
The Lions will host Dominican College tomorrow and look to improve on their 10-12 record.
