Dan Parisi Voted MVP of March

The fans have spoken! After 748 votes, Dan Parisi, Dowling’s senior catcher, triumphed over a field of five other candidates to be named MVP of March.

The players were Jack Parenty (Stony Brook), Angelo Navetta (Molloy), Anthony Bonilla (St. Joseph’s), Mike Marino (Farmingdale) and Steven Foster (Hofstra).

After one day, Parisi had garnered 68% of the vote and appeared to be sailing to the finish line, but overnight the St. Joseph’s crowd went to work. Bonilla not only closed the gap but took a nine-vote lead at 161-152.

The Dowling crowd must’ve took it to heart because Parisi came back with a vengeance. He didn’t just close the gap, he didn’t just take the lead but he took a commanding 190-vote lead within two hours.

He ended up finishing with 461 votes to Bonilla’s 249. The other players were far behind.

Parisi has been a big reason for the Golden Lion’s 11-4 start. In his 13 starts, he has compiled a .435 AVG (20-for-46) with 10 runs scored, 11 RBI, .500 OBP, five BB and only six K. He has also guided the young pitching staff to a terrific 2.57 ERA.

To make the day extra special for Parisi, his first born baby, Giavonna, was born yesterday. Truly a Hollywood ending.

(Editor’s Note: There were two glaring omissions from the vote. Vinny Iacono (LIU Post) and Nick Yip (Old Westbury) both have gotten off to terrific starts.)
