A little cold weather wasn’t going to stop Brendan Butler today. The senior went five innings, allowing three ER for his first win since transferring from Farleigh Dickinson, in Dowling‘s 5-3 victory over Bridgeport.
He was relieved by Dominic Danetti, who threw four dominant innings out of the ‘pen for his first save–he allowed only two hits.
Bridgeport took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning, but the Golden Lions quickly responded with two of their own in the second. Rob Costanzo drove in a run with a ground out to second base. Tyler Piccolo gave Dowling the lead with an RBI double.
Bridgeport did tie it up in the fourth with a run-scoring single, but again the Golden Lions wouldn’t allow them to enjoy prosperity.
Adam Schuster doubled down the RF line to score Matthew Maschovas and Piccolo. That ended up being the difference. Bridgeport did inch closer in the fifth inning with a run, but that was it.
Dowling added an insurance run in the sixth on an RBI triple by Piccolo, who finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI.
They will host Adelphi tomorrow, in hopes of improving on their 6-3 record.
