Unphased by the snow fall in Dobbs Ferry, NY, Jake DeCarli threw 7.2 dominant innings against Mercy, allowing only one hit to lead LIU Post to a 3-1 win over Mercy.
The Pioneers got out to an early 1-0 lead on a wild pitch which scored Tom Tolan. Kenny Daley increased the lead to 2-0 when he drove an RBI single to left field.
That was all DeCarli would need. The 6’0″ sophomore allowed only an unearned run while striking out eight and walking three for his second win of the season.
Dan Jagiello came on in relief in the eighth inning and threw 1.1 shutout innings for his first save of the season. He fanned three and allowed one hit in his outing.
The Pioneers were sloppy in the field–they committed three errors but Mercy did not capitalize on the mistakes.
Vinny Iacono compiled two hits for the Pioneers. They improved to 3-4 on the season. The game was postponed today but they are hoping to play tomorrow.
