Today was a very busy day in Long Island baseball. Six teams were in action. Counting Dowling double header, the teams were 5-2.
Division-I:
Stony Brook: They lost 13-2 to Binghamton. We covered the game, click here to read the recap.
Hofstra: The Pride beat UMass-Lowell 6-5. They came up with two runs in the ninth inning to stave off defeat in a bizarre sequence of events. The first two batters were hit by pitches, the third walked, Eric Ferguson got hit with a pitch to score the tying run and then Jake Fallon was up when the pitcher threw a wild pitch to end the game. Brian MacDonald was the winning pitcher despite walking three batters, throwing two wild pitches and recording one out. Baseball is quite a game.
Freshman Adam Heidenfelder started and threw five strong innings, allowing two ER and striking out six.
Division-II:
Molloy defeated Adelphi 12-1. The Panthers have now lost consecutive games by double-digit runs. They had five hits and made three errors. The Lions compiled 14 hits–Deilyn Guzman, Anthony Alberghina, Michael Rahn, Angelo Navetta and Brian Murphy all had two hits. Shea Spitzbarth threw a gem–12 strikeouts and two walks in seven shutout innings for his first win of the season.
Dowling: They won a double header from Dominican in North Carolina. They won the first game 9-2. Michael Rizzatello led the way with a 3-for-3 performance with two RBI and two runs scored. Dan Parisi added two hits, two RBI and two runs scored, Robert Rose received the win with 2.1 innings in relief of Mike Jeannetti. Freshman Daniel Buckstein added two shutout innings.
In the second game, they won 5-1. They did all their damage early on–Dan Parisi RBI single in the first, George Monsen RBI groundout in the second, RJ Going scored on an error in the third, Michael Rizzatello sac fly in the third and RJ Going RBI double in the fourth.
Kyle DeMeo threw a gem–six shutout innings with 9 strikeouts, one walk and two hits. He needed only 75 pitches to get 18 outs. Chris Tessitore fired a clean seventh inning for the save.
