Adelphi Opens Up 2015 With Victory Over Nova

‘Sorry 4 The Wait’ may have loosely been based on the 2015 baseball season.

It only took halfway through March–and they had to travel to Fort Lauderdale, Fla to do so–but Adelphi finally was able to play their first game of the year. It was a surprising 8-3 victory over Nova Southeastern.

It was surprising in the sense that northeast teams generally do no come out as sharp as the Panthers did against a 17-3 team that was in their home state.

Of course, when you have a draft prospect like Jonathon Mulford, that makes the task more feasible. The Massapequa native fired five shutout innings, allowing only three hits, one walk while striking out five.

The offense came out blazing, they compiled 15 hits–led by Vincent Sharkey‘s 4-for-4 day. DH Kory Cassara added three hits in his Panther debut.

The game was essentially over after the first inning when the Panthers put up a four-spot thanks to RBI singles by Nick Zito, Eric Hassell and a two-run double by Robert Vani.

Things did get a bit dicey in the ninth when freshman David Butler struggled with his control and Nick Batas needed to come in and distinguish the fire.

The Panthers also opened up 2014 with a victory. They enjoy getting off to a bang. They will take on Nova again today at 1.
