The St Joseph’s Golden Eagles traveled down to Fort Meyers, Fla to play some baseball in warm weather. After two losses, they were able to come out victorious 6-4 against Elms in a seven-inning game.
The offense came to play–they smashed 12 hits with Nick Girardi leading the way with three of those. Anthony Bonilla, Brendan Sullivan and Joe Calabrese added two hits each.
They got out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the third on an RBI single by Girardi and a two-run single by Sullivan.
Elms pushed across two in the bottom of the fourth to make it interesting for a bit. The Golden Eagles broke it open in the top of the sixth on a run-scoring error, and RBI singles by Matt Burnett and Bonilla.
Frank Ziegler got the start, and recorded his first victory. He threw three innings, allowed three hits, 1 ER, two walks while striking out two. The combination of Adam Brisman, Luke Brown and Ryan Aloise combined to throw four innings and allow two ER.
The Golden Eagles improve to 1-3 on the season, although they will continue a suspended game in the ninth inning tomorrow that they lead 9-4.
