LIU Downs Nyack

After beginning the season with four losses, the LIU Post Pioneers have won their last two games to turn things around.

Their latest win was a 9-4 victory over Nyack College to conclude their trip to Lantana, Fla.

Jake DeCarli improved to 1-1 with a dominating effort–7.2 innings, one ER, two hits, three walks and eight strikeouts.

The offense attacked early and often. Matt Bowers drove in a run with a bases-loaded four pitch walk in the first inning. He also hit an RBI single in the third inning. The Pioneers added two in the fourth inning on an error and an RBI single by Kenny Daley. Vinny Iacono broke the game open with a run-scoring double in the seventh inning to increase the lead to 8-0.

Vinny Ruggiero came on in relief of DeCarli and gave Nyack a bit of life by allowing a three-run HR but the rally was quickly thwarted.

The Pioneers smacked 11-hits and tied a season-high by scoring 9 runs.

Five players recorded multi-hit games for them.

They will travel back to Long Island, where they will host LeMoyne in a DH on Sunday in Brookville.
