After five cancellations, the St. Joseph’s Golden Eagles were able to kick off their 2015 campaign against Kean University. They dropped a close one 5-4 to the perennial powerhouse.
Entering the bottom of the ninth, the Golden Eagles actually held a 4-2 lead with Nick Girardi on the hill. After a single and a walk to begin the frame, Kean executed a sacrifice bunt to get the tieing run in scoring position.
Pinch-hitter Anthony Fischetti came through with a two-run single to tie the game. He also stole second and third. The following batter walked and stole second to get in scoring position with one out. Scott Durkin ended the game with a single to send St. Joseph’s home on a sour note.
Starting Pitching Ryan Aloise threw a terrific game–5.2 innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out four. He kept a dynamic team at bay and kept his team in the game.
Anthony Bonilla and Nick Girardi both recorded multi-hit games for the Golden Eagles., The former also drove in a run.
They will now travel to Fort Meyers, Fla where they will participate in the Gene Cusic Classic and play eight games.
