Stony Brook Drops Two of Three to UL-Lafayette

Daniel Zamora has gotten off to a tremendous start

The early season road trips to Louisiana have not gone as planned for the Sea Wolves of Stony Brook. Despite escaping the frigid northeast temperature, they lost two of three this week to University of Louisiana-Lafayette to drop to 2-4 on the season.

In their lone victory on Saturday–they defeated the Ragin’ Cajuns 4-1 behind redshirt sophomore Daniel Zamora. We highlighted him as one of the keys to the Sea Wolves’ season. The hard-throwing lefty went six innings, allowing one run on four hits while striking out seven for his first win of the young season.

He now has struck out 15 in 10 innings while compiling a 1.64 ERA.

The Sea Wolves got out to a 3-0 lead early on, with a well-executed squeeze play by Toby Handley to score Johnny Caputo. Bobby Honeyman drove in Andruw Gazzola with an RBI single, and would ultimately score when they stole second and scored on an error.

That was all Zamora would need. He was lifted after six innings, and freshman Teddy Rodliff came on in relief to nail down the final nine outs for his first career save.

The Sea Wolves are certainly not in panic mode–they started out last season 0-6 and it did not have much of an effect on their season.

Next weekend will be a great challenge–as they travel to Gainesville, Fla to take on the Florida Gators.
