Rainbow Warriors Send Hofstra Home Unhappy

University of Hawaii won three of five games this week from the Hofstra Pride. The Pride have gotten off to a 2-6 start on the season.

In the first game of the series, the Pride got out to a 3-0 lead in the fifth inning. They were executing small ball and capitalizing on mistakes. Their first run came on an RBI groundout by Matt Anunziata. They also scored on an error as Steven Foster was attempting a steal of third base.
Alec Eisenberg was virtually untouchable. He carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning, but his night was over after a walk and a single. Bowie Matteson came on and put out the fire to end the threat.
The Rainbow Warriors then put a scare into the Pride. They scored two runs in the eighth inning on an RBI groundout and a wild pitch.
In the ninth, Kevin Weissheier came on for the save. He loaded the bases with nobody out. The lefty escaped the jam with a strikeout and a twin killing.
The Pride also won the third game 6-5–crushing a season-high 15 hits. After five innings, the Pride had gotten out to a healthy 6-0 lead on RBI singles by Foster in the third (who went 4-for-4), Chris Weiss in the fourth and Leiderman in the fifth.
Anunziata drove in two with a triple in the fifth and he came around to score on a wild pitch.
Hofstra starter, Chris Bonk was strong through six innings, allowing only a solo home run while yielding three hits, two walkas and striking out three.
Things got dicey in the ninth. Kevin Weissheier allowed four runs in 0.1 innings and departed with the tieing run in scoring position. He was relieved by Brendan Sullivan–who escaped the jam after striking out Kaeo Aliviado.
The Pride will travel to Lexington, VA next weekend to take on Virginia Military Institute for a three-game set.
