Krause Leads Stony Brook to No. 1 Seed

When Stony Brook started out 0-6 on the season, it was hard to believe they would be playing meaningful games in late May. But then they won a game. Then they continued it. Now they can’t lose.

The Sea Wolves defeated Hartford 4-2 to capture their third regular season America East title in the past four seasons. They will enter the tournament as the No. 1 seed and be looking to win their fifth conference title since joining in 2002.

Tyler Honahan started and went 5.1 innings, allowing three hits and two earned runs. He was relieved by Bryan Tatelman, who threw 1.2 shutout innings. The score was tied at 2.

In the bottom of the eight, Robert Chaverria reached on an error to start the inning. The red-hot Kevin Krause–who hit his league-leading eighth homer of the season earlier–smoked a double to drive in the go-ahead run.  Anthony Italian followed with a sac fly to pad the lead.c

Cameron Stone came on for the six-out save. He threw all 10 pitches for strikes in the eighth inning and retired the side in order in the ninth as well. He was awarded with his second win of the season.

The Sea Wolves only had seven hits in the game, but made the most of them. They have now won 27 of their 33 games.

They will play on Thursday in the first-round of the conference tournament.
