Perhaps entering the tournament with a chip on their shoulder, the Dowling Golden Lions shut out Franklin Pierce 3-0 in the first round of the East Regional Tournament.
Tyler Badamo performed as he has all season; complete game shutout, five hits, eight strikeouts for his ninth victory of the season against three losses. He now has 125 strikeouts in 108 innings and a 0.76 ERA.
“I was pretty locked in,” he said. He has been locked in against Pierce all season, having not allowed an earned run in 17.2 innings against a 35-win team.
The offense did not need to come out firing, but JC Brandmeier got them on the board quick with a solo HR in the second inning. That’s all that was needed, but they added two more on a HR Dan Parisi.
They will take on the winner of Wilmington and St. Thomas Aquinas today at 4:00.
