The Farmingdale Rams advanced to the winner’s bracket with a 4-2 win over No. 4 Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday morning.

They got out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on an RBI double by Danny Paccione. He advanced to third on a sac bunt and stole home when Sanguini was thrown out attempting to steal second.

In the top of the third, they increased the lead to 3-0 on an error by the third baseman, and Mike Marino made it hurt with an RBI single two batters later to stretch the lead to four.

Alex Weingarten started, but was taken out after 4.2 innings, having allowed one run on three hits and three walks. It was unusual for him, he has earned the trust of the coaching staff to pitch out of trouble. Nevertheless, Timmy Trimarchi came in and got out of the fifth inning. He allowed a solo HR in the sixth to make it 4-2.

Chris Dragone came on for the Rams in the seventh and held the fort by throwing two scoreless innings. The Rams did not tack on any runs, which kept the save situation in tact.

Mike Dolce came in for the ninth inning. Despite walking the leadoff hitter, he came out unscathed after a line drive to first base resulted in a game-ending unassisted double play.

The Rams will have more than 24 hours to rest before their next game. They will take on the winner of No. 1 Cortland St. vs No. 8 Castleton. They have has success in the opening games of the regionals, it has been the remaining games that have proven to be the most challenging.

(Farmingdale has history against Castleton. Four years ago in an elimination game, yours truly started and was in line for the victory, when an errant throw by the SS allowed two runs to score and turn victory into a season-ending defeat. Needless to say, it was a devastating way to lose a baseball game and it still replays in my mind).
