Stony Brook Stays Hot

Stony Brook stayed hot and remained the top seed in the America East conference this weekend with a sweep of UMBC. They are now 31-15, and 16-4 in conference play with one weekend to go.

They won the first game 5-3 behind Frankie Vanderka’s CG win. He held the opposition to seven hits, he walked none and struck out three. He is now 3-4 on the season.

The Sea Wolves trailed 3-2 in the seventh but scored three runs to take the lead on a sac fly, RBI double by Johnny Caputo and an error.They added a run in the eighth, but Vanderka sealed the deal anyway.

They won the second game 11-3. Brandon McNitt won his sixth game with six innings of two-run ball. he struck out nine and walked one despite five wild pitches.

The Sea Wolves scored four in the first, three in the fourth and four in the sixth. Cole Peragine went 4-for-4 with two RBI and one run scored. Kevin Krause added three hits, two RBI and three runs. Caputo had two hits and four RBI, including a three-run HR.

They completed the sweep with an easy 10-3 win. Tyler Honahan won his seventh game, throwing six inings, allowing two ER, striking out four and walking two. Tim Knesnik, Bryan Tatelman and Cameron Stone contributed scoreless innings. They allowed only three hits–all singles–in the victory.

The offense put the game away with a six-run third inning, and added three in the fifth. Krause had two hits, one run scored and four RBI. Robert Chaverria scored three runs and Peragine drove in two.

They are in control of the conference, and will most likely host the America East conference assuming they take care of business this weekend against Hartford.

Notes: Krause now has 44 RBI and a .349 average…The Sea Wolves are 17-2 at Joe Nathan Stadium…Kevin Courtney leads the team with 63 hits…The team ERA is down to 3.29
