For much of the season, Hofstra was in the thick of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) standings, hovering around .500. After a losing a weekend series two of three to the College of Charleston, they are not helping their cause.
They are now 19-23 on the season with a record of 7-11 in the CAA, good enough for seventh place.
In their lone win of the weekend, they won 4-2. The combination of David D’Errico and Brett Schrieber was successful once again with the starter throwing five innings of two-run ball with the dominant closer throwing four shutout innings for his ninth save of the season. The two combined for 12 strikeouts, the highest total of the season.
The Pride backed him with three runs in each of the first three innings, with the first coming on a solo home run by Matt Ford. That’s all the offense the pitching staff would need, as they dropped Charleston to 34-16 on the season.
They will complete their regular season schedule this weekend against UMass-Lowell. They will need help to jump over James Madison in the standings.
