The Farmingdale Rams will enter the NY regional as the No. 5 seed, according to the NCAA. The tournament will begin on Wednesday. The Rams automatically qualified for the tournament after defeating Old Westbury to win the Skyline Conference for the seventh consecutive season.
They enter with a record of 25-11, but are a different team on the road. They were 7-7 on the road, versus 15-2 at home. Additionally, they will have the misfortune of possibly facing Kean and Cortland St. in the same tournament.
The Rams just lost 10-1 to Kean in a non-conference game on Saturday. They are a perennial powerhouse that won the Division-III World Series in 2007. The Cougars are 34-10 on the season, and have advanced to the College World Series six times in the last seven years.
Farmingdale will open the tournament against Rutgers-Camden (29-11) at 10 a.m on Wednesday. They hit .308 as a hit, led by freshman Joe Brooks (.434 AVG, 45 R). Their pitching staff had a spectacular 2.71 ERA, led by Tommy Potts (7-1, 1.66 ERA).
The Rams will counter with Alex Weingarten on the hill. The Rams have had tremendous success in the first-round of regional tournaments, it is the following games that have proved to be the challenge.
