Dowling swept a four-game series from Mercy College to improve to 29-11 on the season. Tyler Badamo continued his excellence with eight more shutout innings, allowing two hits and walking one while striking out 10. The numbers are ridiculous; he has not allowed an earned run in 69 innings to bring his ERA down to a microscopic 0.43. His 10 strikeouts give him a program-record 108 on the season. He is now 7-2 on the season. Adam Schuster led the offense with three hits, while Andrew Abreu added two and two RBI. Mercy helped the Golden Lions by committing three errors.
They won the second game 2-1 on a walk-off RBI single by Tyler Hardison. JJ Bessell won his fourth game of the season after his dominant complete game effort. He struck out 10, walked one and scattered eight hits. Bessell had flown under-the-radar due to the excellence of the top of the pitching staff but he has had quite a season for himself. He now sports a 1.57 ERA in 57 innings.
They won the third game 7-1 behind Kyle DeMeo’s six strong innings, allowing no earned runs. He allowed five hits and two walks. JC Brandmeier and Andrew Abreu both smacked three hits and drove in two runs. Brandmeier’s RBI triple in the first inning got the Golden Lions rolling.
They closed out the series with an easy 11-1 win. Cody McPartland won his second game of the season by firing six strong innings and allowing only one run. He struck out three and walked two. The Golden Lions displayed some pop by compiling 14 hits–seven of which went for extra-bases including home runs by RJ going and Rob Veltre. Vinny Orlando had two hits, scored two and drove in three.
Adelphi got swept by St. Thomas Aquinas on senior day by the scored of 8-3 and 7-0. In the first game they blew a 3-1 eighth inning lead. Matt Abramowitz suffered his second loss of the season. Stephen Bove had a strong start spoiled.
They were one-hit in the second game by Robert Frank and C.J Ferriggi, who played his high school ball at Kellenberg. Cliff Brantley had the lone hit for the Panthers. Mike Ceperano lost his third game of the season.
They will travel to Pace tomorrow.
CW Post lost two of three to Brideport to fall to 16-16 on the season. They salvaged the final game of the series with a 10-1 victory, thanks to an eight-run eighth inning. James Long went the distance for his second win of the season. He struck out nine and walked one. Tom Tolan led the offense with three hits, scored two and drove in two. Vinny Iacono also drove in two, as did Thomas Asbaty.
They will host Felician tomorrow.
Molloy beat Queens three of four but out scored them 15-5 in the final three games to improve to 17-19. Queens took the first game 4-2 in 11 innings, despite Max Schonfeld’s tremendous nine inning outing.
They won the second game 10-3 behind Alex Miden’s eight dominant innings. He allowed three runs (two ER) struck out 10, walked two and scattered three hits for his fifth win of the year against one loss. The offense fought back from a 3-2 deficit in the sixth inning. Brian Murphy drove in three and scored two, as did Deilyn Guzman.
They took the third game 3-1 thanks to Shea Spitzbarth’s seven inning complete game. He limited Queens to four hits and two walks while striking out eight for his third win. The go-ahead runs scored on an error by the catcher. The Lions only had five hits and the lone RBI came in on Anthony Alberghina’s RBI single.
They closed out the series with a 2-1 win. Bobby Kelly recorded the win with 1.2 shutout innings in relief of Alex Brosnan who went 7.1 innings. Brian Murphy (3-for-4) scored the go-ahead run on an error by the pitcher in the eighth inning. Kevin Podell, also 3-for-4, drove in the other run with an RBI single earlier in the eighth inning to put the Lions on the board.
